Inspirational...

I just got this in my email from the secretary at the kids' school. I thought it was worth passing along. I hope you enjoy it as well.

The below is true as you can see at the snopes link. We need more teachers like this who will one day move up to be school administrators, and continue to instill values in our children. ; http://www.snopes.com/glurge/nodesks.asp(Click on this link to find out even more info about this remarkable class.)

Back in September of 2005, on the first day of school, Martha Cothren, a social studies school teacher at Robinson High School in Little Rock, did something not to be forgotten. On the first day of school, with permission of the school superintendent, the principal and the building supervisor, she took all of the desks out of the classroom. The kids came into first period, they walked in, there were no desks. They obviously looked around and said, "Ms. Cothren, where's our desk?" And she said, "You can't have a desk until you tell me how you earn them."They thought, "Well, maybe it's our grades.""No," she said."Maybe it's our behavior."And she told them, "No, it's not even your behavior."And so they came and went in the first period, still no desks in the classroom. Second period, same thing, third period. By early afternoon television news crews had gathered in Ms. Cothren's class to find out about this crazy teacher who had taken all the desks out of the classroom. The last period of the day, Martha Cothren gathered her class. They were at this time sitting on the floor around the sides of the room. And she says, "Throughout the day no one has really understood how you earn the desks that sit in this classroom ordinarily." She said, "Now I'm going to tell you."Martha Cothren went over to the door of her classroom and opened it, and as she did 27 U.S. veterans, wearing their uniforms, walked into that classroom, each one carrying a school desk. And they placed those school desks in rows, and then they stood along the wall. And by the time they had finished placing those desks, those kids for the first time I think perhaps in their lives understood how they earned those desks.Martha said, "You don't have to earn those desks. These guys did it for you. They put them out there for you, but it's up to you to sit here responsibly to learn, to be good students and good citizens, because they paid a price for you to have that desk, and don't ever forget it."My friend, I think sometimes we forget that the freedoms that we have are freedoms not because of celebrities. The freedoms are because of ordinary people who did extraordinary things, who loved this country more than life itself, and who not only earned a school desk for a kid at the Robinson High School in Little Rock, but who earned a seat for you and me to enjoy this great land we call home, this wonderful nation that we better love enough to protect and preserve with the kind of conservative, solid values and principles that made us a great nation."We live in the Land of the Free because of the brave"Remember our Troops... Great Day!!

The kids are all healthy again!! And Shane is home!! Praise God!!
Shane is at work today--and will be off and on until he leaves. He will be taking leave and having time off too though--just don't know the schedule yet. We should be able to get that all worked out in the next couple of days. This weekend I'm pretty sure we all have a 4 day weekend for Easter so we will be attending church, having egg hunts, baskets and of course a ham dinner. Should be a wonderful time.
Anyway, we are looking forward to as much quality family time as possible--it will only be 3 or 4 weeks until Shane is gone again so--If you don't hear from me, that's why. This blog will still be around and I will post when I can, but there are other things much more important at the moment. I'm sure you all understand.
Have a fabulous Easter!!!

Still home but doing better

I kept the kids home for one more day...
They seem fine, but were really tired and hadn't really eaten anything so I figured it wouldn't hurt for them to rest one more day.
I love Katie...I had her Daisy tunic in the kitchen with her newest 2 patches pinned on so I can sew them later and she said, "Mom I know how to sew on patches. Can I do it?" So we got out a needle and thread and as we speak she is working on the second one. She is having so much fun! She told me she loves to sew--I think I'm going to get out some projects for her. I just saw one the other day to make a tote bag and it looked pretty simple. I think she would really enjoy it.
Got an email from Shane this morning that he will be home sometime tonight!!!! He's supposed to call when they are ready to head out. Can't wait--the kids are very excited too. Well I guess I better get off of here and get some cleaning done--everything needs a good disinfecting and stuff with the kids so sick and I would like to have it all done before Shane gets here so we can enjoy his company rather than worry about the house.
So off I go...

Now they are all sick!!!

Last night around 7 Brendan got sick and by 10 Meghan and Katie were too. I spent the entire night dealing with vomiting children!! Literally every 15-20 minutes all night long someone was sick--not to mention Brendan and Meghan were in my bed and Katie had a bed made up on the floor in my room. Except for Meghan one time around 8, no one has thrown up since 5:30 this morning so hopefully we are on the upswing.--I am just exhausted!!! And of course Shane is coming home tomorrow so I have a million things to do to get ready for that and I have 4 sick kids to deal with (Dillan isn't so sick anymore, but still not himself--very clingy today) I guess the house will just have to wait--I have sickies to snuggle.
Have a great day!!!

Poor little Meghan

Meghan does not sleep well--never has. She has bad dreams and nightmares a lot and has never been able to tell me what they are--she doesn't remember--sometimes she will say a monster, but I think that is just because she wants to say something. Anyway, last night she was in bed yelling and screaming and saying NNNOOO NNNOOO so I went in to see what was wrong and for once she knew--
"I was flying my balloon on a string and I let go..."
She was so upset--isn't that the sweetest thing. Oh to be 4.
